Recognized since 1937, the controlled designation of origin Puligny Montrachet is mainly known for its very great white wines of the Côte de Beaune : their proportion represents 97% of the total production. The wines of Puligny Montrachet are all from the Chardonnay grape variety, grown on limestone and marble clay-limestone terroirs. 17 climats (plots) are ranked Premier Cru on almost half of the production area. The terroir is exceptional, and the wines of Puligny Montrachet , like their illustrious neighbors, the Chassagne Montrachet, are the perfect expression of the Chardonnay grape. Very characteristic, the white wines of Puligny Montrachet are of clear robe with green reflections in their youth: they take a gold color with ageing. Their nose is usually complex, with a floral aspect of hawthorn and notes of toasted almonds and hazelnuts. On the palate, Puligny Montrachet is particularly buttered with a mineral finish. Complexity and voluptuousness make this great white wine of the Côte de Beaune, one of the finest examples of what is produced in the Burgundy region.
