Located in the vineyards of Bourgeais and Blayais , 45 kilometers north of Bordeaux on the eastern shore of the Gironde, the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, formerly known as Premières Côtes de Blaye, was created in 1938. Since 2008, it has been integrated into the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, in the same way as the appellations Francs, Castillon, and Cadillac. The vineyard is planted on 6490 hectares and the appellation Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux produces Red wines mainly from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Francs, Côt (Malbec) and Merlot grape varieties. A small part of the vineyard of Blaye (barely 4%), planted in Sauvignon, Semillon and Muscadelle produces dry White wines. All wines are therefore obtained by blending. Undermined by the numerous battles between French and English territory, the wine-growing activity of this region has lagged behind, which it has since largely caught up with thanks to the quality effort carried out by the new generations of vine-growers. The appellation Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux is currently very promising, both in terms of the quality of these wines and in the reasonable prices charged by the industry.
