The Medoc vineyard, north of Bordeaux, brings together eight Protected designation of origin in total, including the Haut-Medoc AOC vineyard. This one is located on the southern part of the vineyard from the Saint-Estephe appellation. The Haut-Medoc appellation is regional, as is the Medoc AOC , and includes the six communal appellations of the vineyard. The planted area is 4,600 hectares, including communal crus, for the exclusive production of Red wines from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties. Here and there, other Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Côt (Malbec) can be used, but in very small proportions. Here again the nature of the soil is very important. These are mainly made of Graves, a mixture of gravel, pebbles, sand and clays, which accumulate the heat of the day to restore it to the vine during the night. Wines are particularly tannic and are pruned for custody. It is advisable to let most of the wines of Haut-Medoc "melt" a few years before starting to taste them. Of a red-brown garnet, deep robe, their notes tend towards black fruits, tinted with leather and roasted beans. They are generally powerful and aromatic. Note that five estates were classified Grand Cru in 1855, including Château Cantemerle. superb Find a selection of Haut-Medoc wines on Defi Vin at an attractive price.
