The Aloxe Corton Controlled Designation of Origin was created in 1938. It is at Corton Mountain that the Côte de Beaune begins : thus it forms the border with the Côte de Nuits. A rare occurrence in Burgundy , the exhibition of the Corton mountain goes from the South-East to the South-West. This one is shared longitudinally, grouping the Grands Crus of Corton in Red and White on the upper part, and wines of appellation Aloxe Corton on the hillside. The vineyard covers almost 122 hectares, on three communes: Aloxe Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Ladoix Serrigny. There are no fewer than 14 climats (Plots) classified in 1er Cru and some fifteen Lieux-dits. Red wines of Aloxe Corton , of relatively dark color, velvety ruby, are structured and full-bodied, developing in their youth notes of gourmand red fruit and powerful black fruits. Custody and maturity will diversify and intensify this beautiful palette towards floral, undergrowth and even animal (leather) notes. They are medium-sized wines: it takes 3 to 5 years to allow Aloxe Corton wines to melt and soften. The red wines accompany red meats, but also roasted poultry or in sauce and of course ripened Burgundy cheeses with washed dough like Epoisses. The rare white wines (barely 10,000 bottles are produced per year on the Aloxe Corton appellation) will accompany white meats and fish. The wines of Aloxe Corton constitute the link between the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. A little apart they have a bit of both regions: Finesse and sensuality, but also power and full-bodied notes. Buy a wine from Aloxe Corton red on Défi Vin, it's the assurance of not going wrong, and this, at a fair price and attractive.
