2008 vintage in France - superb in Alsace
Great vintage in Alsace, excellent in Champagne, the 2008 vintage is superior to the 2007 vintage for the entire French vineyard, and especially for Bordeaux wines (except the sweet wines, exceptional in the previous vintage). Great vintage in Alsace, excellent in Champagne, the 2008 vintage is superior to the 2007 vintage for the entire French vineyard, and especially for Bordeaux wines (except the sweet wines, exceptional in the previous vintage). Do not get me wrong: the fact that there are still wines of the 2008 vintage on sale while the 2009 are starting to really get scarce, is explained by the incredible enthusiasm for the 2009 vintage. But the quality is beautiful and wines are good for ageing . On the other hand, the red wines of Burgundy are a little austere, Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune confused, while the whites are already drinking. In other regions, climatic conditions have hampered the winemakers: know-how and experience saved the most competent. In Beaujolais, this 2008 vintage is to be forgotten.
