The 2003 vintage was marked by the heat wave that struck in France from June to August. The wines produced are exceptional in all wine-growing regions. The reds have taken on accents and tints of the south of France, with however typical of their terroirs and the work of the vine growers. The wines of the 2003 vintage were immediately charming, with notes very confit, sometimes caramelized, roasted. Hence, the wines lacked acidity, not allowing them the long guard that was expected. This has not been mastered by all areas, overtaken by events, drought and very high temperatures. Those who did not change their habits were the most affected. But overall the wines are beautiful, although different and atypical. Red wines from the "northern" regions of France seem to be closer to the Maury, Banyuls and other Roussillon wines, than their appellation. This 2003 vintage is also a winemaker vintage. Bordeaux and Burgundy are for the most part sumptuous. As for the regions of the Rhone and Southeast, accustomed to these heats, they have taken advantage of these extreme climatic conditions. Elsewhere the wines will not keep, except in exceptional cases, more. But what a treat.
